I kept getting one response above all else to my number of questions regarding my prognosis, symptoms, rehab, etc. "Everyone's injury is different." While, yes, every injury is different, and unfortunately there can't be any guarantees, I found that there are many people out there that are similar to me.
Luckily, early on in my recovery, I was introduced to Mike Shaw, who suffered a similar injury to me in 2013. In addition to being an inspiration, I recognized the similarities Mike and I shared in our recoveries, even in the beginning stages. Throughout the past 7 months, I have looked to Mike for goals, commentary, and answers and he has been invaluable to me.
My goal, by creating Connecting the Resilient, is to bring together SCI survivors from across the world. By doing so, hopefully we can together provide an easier way for future SCI survivors to find someone similar to themselves, read their story, and connect for guidance and inspiration.

In July of 2017, as a celebration of my recovery, my older brothers gave me a 2 week trip to Asia, spending a week in Japan and a week in China. This trip was an awesome experience for me in many ways. One was that I logged 80+ miles, on foot, over 12 days.
CTR, at that point was just getting started and I was and am still trying to expand to as many SCI survivors as I can. Therefor, when in Shanghai, my Brother and I visited one of the leading Spine Surgeons. Luckily, my brother and I were able to communicate, in Chinese the goals of CTR and he was more than happy to introduce us to Chinese SCI survivors. We are working on getting their stories, which requires extensive translation.
